Hop tissue cultures?
Cool pict, thanks.
H.P. Lovecraft’s imagination? 😉
Hmm, that may actually be Oregon. Could be anywhere! Killer yeasts of Wyeast? Something to do with hops at OSU? Martian blood samples in Langley? Stop me if I’m getting warm…
“Martian blood samples in Langley?”
See — see! Lovecraft!
But, wouldn’t Martian samples be at Area 51?
I considered that. Plus, given Stan’s former residence, it makes more sense. Damn!
“Plus, given Stan’s former residence…”
I was thinking the same thing — maybe that’s why he’s on the run? 😉
I’m curious as to what breed of what is in the tubes,, how they do it, how long it takes to put in dirt, how many at time,,,etc….
Maybe Stan’s a man on the hunt,,,and the story is in the tubes?
Packing for the rather insane flights home (5 airports, 3 countries, 2 sets of customs – not betting it will work), but wanted to answer the basic question.
The picture was taken at the Czech hop research lab in Zatek.
Details if I ever make it back.
The picture was taken in what’s known as the cultivation room, where hops are grown up from original germplasm. This includes the varieties of hops grown in the Czech Republic as well as breeding strains and other hop varieties.
Josef Patzak of the Hop Research Institute, said: “It’s like you’d see in the U.S. at Corvallis.”
I agreed, but pointed there you wouldn’t see one of the original land race hops – Saaz. The oldest documented evidence of hop gardens around Zatec dates to 1348, but the history likely extends further back.
Sorry, Todd, but I didn’t get details about the process of propagation.
Thanks Stan! I’m going to try to learn this micro-propagation asap.
So I should get a nod for guessing–wildly–that it might be Corvallis.
