Shut up and drink your beer

Don Russell speaks the truth today in his Joe Sixpack column, doing a little digging about the provenance of your favorite beer given all the chatter that arose out of the “Beer Summit.”

The lesson here: Drink up and find something else to complain about. Beer is not for xenophobes.

Funny thing is he asks up front: Does it really matter who makes your beer?

I think it does. And where the ingredients come from, and if it’s local (not that it always has to be), and . . . heck, just look at the mission statement. But no flag waving here, and when you head for the tavern on Friday afternoon (whoa, dude, that’s today) to grab a beer or two and complain it should not be about the beer.

  1. The funniest, or most pathetic, thing with all these b*llocks about Obama’s choice of a beer that is foreign owned is that Bud Light is the best selling brew in the US…..

I’m sure that if he’d chosen some locally brewed craft beer those same idiots would have accused him of being elitist….

  2. Just think if he’d gone with Bud Light Lime. Then he could have been bashed for the whole Bud/foreign/boring thing AND being elitist.

From the news about A-B’s second quarter:

“Bud Light Lime, which sells at a 25% premium to Bud Light, continued to be a strong seller in the U.S., despite sluggish economic conditions that tend to disadvantage more expensive drinks. The beer has captured 1.2% of the entire U.S. beer market since its introduction in May of last year, according to market estimates. It is the fastest-growing beer in the U.S., and ranks 13th in total sales, AB InBev said.”

LOL!! With tears in my eyes after watching some mook block the parking lot at my local good-beer-store with his mini-van while wifey sauntered in and bought a 12 pack of… yeah, that’s right.

Did these people take a hankering to the Bud Light Lime because it has more flavor than plain ol’ Bud Light? And they’d rather have cheap lime flavor than real beer flavor? Kool-Aid and Vodka is probably cheaper.
