Like the role of journalist or the connection between reading about beer and enjoying beer.  <\/p>\n<p>But they reminded me I&#8217;ve been meaning to mention the latest special edition from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breweryhistory.com\/journal\/archive\/index.html\">The Brewery History Society<\/a>: &#8220;The American Brewing Industry Since Repeal: Large and Smaller Brewers.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>Amy Mittelman (<a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/book-review-learning-from-brewing-battles\/\"><em>Brewing Battles<\/em><\/a>) wrote the introduction, Sam Calagione provides an imagined history<sup>1<\/sup>, Fred Eckhardt a remembered history and Doug Hoverson (<a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/book-review-land-of-amber-waters\/\"><em>Land of Amber Waters<\/em><\/a>) a fully footnoted history<sup>2<\/sup>. Just to give you an idea of what&#8217;s in the issue. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breweryhistory.com\/journal\/archive\/141\/index.html\">The contents<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not the compleat history of the industry since 1933, but tells a complete story and is a reminder of at least what I expect from historians. They do more than check facts. They interpret them in a way that history makes sense; maybe even the present and future. For further examples consult <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/ambitious-brew-a-not-so-bitter-history\/\"><em>Ambitious Brew<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/zythophile.wordpress.com\"><em>The Story of the Pint<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><font size=-2><sup>1<\/sup> Calagione&#8217;s contribution is an imagined conversation between Woody Guthrie and Charlie Papazian. Several years ago Calagione made Guthrie the centerpiece of a series of beer dinners.
