The Brewers Association announced craft beer sales we up 12% in 2007, pretty much the same numbers that <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/hey-people-are-still-spending-money-for-beer\/\">IRI revealed<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>The story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realbeer.com\/blog\/?p=761\">is here<\/a>, but I wanted to draw your attention to this nifty looking chart. Much cooler than my <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/miller-lite-craft-style-fish-where-the-fish-are\/\">photo with pieces of change<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/20080228-chart.jpg\" alt=\"Beer pie chart\" class=\"centered\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We can niggle about the definition of craft (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beertown.org\/craftbrewing\/statistics.html\">click and scroll down<\/a>), but moving around a few breweries out of 1449 isn&#8217;t going to change the percentages much.<\/p>\n<p>What you see is a lot of choice (put it all in caps, if you want, and speak slowly).<\/p>\n<p>But also that 97% of the breweries in the country make just 3.8% of the beer. Meaning 3% of the breweries produce 96% of the beer.<\/p>\n<p>Make of that what you will.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No surprise.
