{"id":427,"date":"2007-12-19T06:23:57","date_gmt":"2007-12-19T13:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/leading-beer-trends-for-2008-no-4a\/"},"modified":"2007-12-19T06:23:57","modified_gmt":"2007-12-19T13:23:57","slug":"leading-beer-trends-for-2008-no-4a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/leading-beer-trends-for-2008-no-4a\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading beer trends for 2008: No. 4a*"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/20071219-beerschool.jpg\" alt=\"Beer College\" class=\"alignright\"\/>Were I inclined to make predictions (<em>not likely<\/em>) about the <strong>Top 10 Beer Trends of 2008<\/strong> then one would somehow have to include the words &#8220;education&#8221; and &#8220;certification.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For education, I&#8217;d start with Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Chicago for the Siebel Institute of Technology&#8217;s course on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siebelinstitute.com\/course_desc\/pro_beer_tasting.html\">Professional Beer Tasting &#038; Styles<\/a>. More about that in a moment, because the syllabus gets a little long.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certification I:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cicerone.org\/component\/option,com_smf\/Itemid,46\/topic,3.msg72\/#msg72\">Ray Daniels posts<\/a> that the online exam for the first level of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cicerone.org\/content\/view\/13\/39\/\">Cicerone certification<\/a> should available soon.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Certification II:<\/strong> The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mbaa.com\/\">Master Brewers Association of America<\/a> quarterly newsletter reports the board of governors &#8220;approved a new MBAA-sponsored education program targeted at individuals<br \/>\nin the wholesale and retail beer trades.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The program\u2019s goal is to improve the image of beer and broaden its appeal by better maintaining its freshness throughout the distribution chain and by increasing the knowledge of beer styles and proper serving techniques for those who distribute and serve beer. The Publication Committee is charged with producing a new reference book that will provide the relevant and necessary information to educate applicants to be certified under the program. Individuals applying for certification must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of beer by passing a rigorous exam based on the contents of the reference book.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Back to the <strong>course at Siebel<\/strong>, Randy Mosher (author of &#8220;Radical Brewing&#8221; and the upcoming &#8220;BeerSense: Understanding the Pleasures of the World&#8217;s Best Drink&#8221;) put it together.
