{"id":3829,"date":"2010-04-18T16:59:05","date_gmt":"2010-04-18T22:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/?p=3829"},"modified":"2010-04-18T16:59:05","modified_gmt":"2010-04-18T22:59:05","slug":"18april2010-beer-linkorama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/18april2010-beer-linkorama\/","title":{"rendered":"18April2010: Beer linkorama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Should Molson Coors have been surprised by the shitstorm that followed the announcement it will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketingmagazine.co.uk\/news\/rss\/996534\/Molson-Coors-launch-clear-beer-women\/\">launch a clear beer<\/a> as part of a drive to increase the number of women lager drinkers in the UK?  <\/p>\n<p>I gotta think they could have been better prepared, but it might have taken supernatural powers to plan for the double blast (as in two barrels of a shotgun) that <a href=\"http:\/\/girlsguidetobeer.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/showing-coors-clear-pair-of-heels.html\">Melissa Cole<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/drinkwiththewench.com\/?p=4202\">Ashley Routson<\/a> delivered, then the comments that followed. Go look. I&#8217;ll wait.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Beaumont adds <a href=\"http:\/\/worldofbeer.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/17\/women-errr-wenches-beer-a-continuing-study\/\">more the the topic<\/a> so I&#8217;ll keep it brief. Recent studies have found men and women perceive some flavors and aromas differently (make that <em>some<\/em> men and women, because there&#8217;s nothing universal about these perceptions, so they very from man to man, from woman to woman). For instance, men (<em>in general<\/em>) are more likely to describe the aroma of Citra, a new-ish hop prominent in Sierra Nevada Torpedo, as &#8220;tropical fruit.&#8221; Women are more likely to find it &#8220;catty&#8221; (as in cat piss or liter box).<\/p>\n<p>Should brewing companies &#151; and it&#8217;s generally the largest ones that have the money to finance such research and make those changes &#151; design beers to appeal those preferences?
