{"id":332,"date":"2007-09-21T12:35:59","date_gmt":"2007-09-21T19:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/loosening-the-belt-for-the-session-8\/"},"modified":"2007-09-21T12:35:59","modified_gmt":"2007-09-21T19:35:59","slug":"loosening-the-belt-for-the-session-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/loosening-the-belt-for-the-session-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Loosening the belt for The Session #8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/00-thesession150.jpg\" alt=\"The Session\" class=\"alignright\"\/>I think I put on five pounds this week just reading or thinking about food and beer <em>together<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBest-American-Beer-Food-Pairing%2Fdp%2F0937381918%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1190149724%26sr%3D8-1&#038;tag=beertravelers&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325\">Lucy Saunders&#8217; new book<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=beertravelers&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> arrived in the mail this week, I received a press release about a beer cookbook out in January and I chatted with a chef who has a different, and I think excellent, idea on how to approach a beer cookbook.<\/p>\n<p>So I couldn&#8217;t help thinking that in just two weeks we&#8217;ll be loosening our belts for The Session #8, since  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beerhaikudaily.com\/2007\/09\/12\/announcing-the-session-8-beer-and-food\/\">Beer Haiku Daily<\/a> has made the theme <strong>Beer &#038; Food<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m already warming to the task.<\/p>\n<p>Today a bit about Tuesdays at one of my local brewpubs, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chamariverbrewery.com\/\">Chama River Brewing<\/a> in Albuquerque. Each Tuesday the restaurant offers a three-course dinner, with the selections changing once a month. Customers can order just the meal ($25), the meal with wine ($45), or the meal with beer ($35). <\/p>\n<p>Most often the beers come from Chama&#8217;s six-beer regular lineup. I&#8217;ve copied the August menu here because it included a seasonal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1st Course<\/strong><br \/>\nChorizo and Wild Mushroom Strudel<br \/>\nSpinach Salad and Port Wine Syrup<br \/>\n<strong>Beer Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013 Demolition Dubbel<br \/>\n<strong>Wine Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013  Vivac \u201cV\u201d Reserve Merlot<\/p>\n<p><strong>2nd Course<\/strong><br \/>\nSeared Sea Scallops<br \/>\nApple and Belgian Endive, Fingerling Potatoes and Brown Butter<br \/>\n<strong>Beer Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013  Copper John Pale Ale<br \/>\n<strong>Wine Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013 Casal Garcia Vinho Verde<\/p>\n<p><strong>3rd Course<\/strong><br \/>\nChocolate Banana Wontons<br \/>\nCoconut Dipping Sauce<br \/>\n<strong>Beer Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013  Sleeping Dog Stout<br \/>\n<strong>Wine Flight:<\/strong> Paired with  \u2013 Rocha White Port<\/p>\n<p>Part of a family of restaurants, with siblings that earn <em>Wine Spectator<\/em> awards, Chama offers a well chosen and reasonably (but not cheaply) priced wine list.<\/p>\n<p>But I always drink the beer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think I put on five pounds this week just reading or thinking about food and beer together.
