{"id":331,"date":"2007-09-20T16:15:20","date_gmt":"2007-09-20T23:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/scottish-newcastle-learns-why-where-matters\/"},"modified":"2007-09-20T16:15:20","modified_gmt":"2007-09-20T23:15:20","slug":"scottish-newcastle-learns-why-where-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/scottish-newcastle-learns-why-where-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish &#038; Newcastle learns why where matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/20070920-johnsmith.jpg\" alt=\"John Smith's Cask Ale\" class=\"alignleft\"\/>Local drinkers say they can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorkpress.co.uk\/news\/yorknews\/display.var.1698173.0.john_smiths_cask_beer_brewed_in_tad_again.php\">taste the difference<\/a> (and that&#8217;s good) now that Scottish &#038; Newcastle has resumed brewing some of its John Smith&#8217;s cask ale in Tadcaster.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the company said: &#8220;In order to gain a better understanding of the recent product quality issues experienced by some stockists of cask John Smith&#8217;s we have been producing supplementary brews at our Tadcaster brewery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The beer is also brewed in Warrington.<\/p>\n<p>The York Press quoted one regular drinker saying, &#8220;It was magnificent and so smooth on the palate that I was forced to test several further pints to check it was no fluke. I implore the brewery to bring production back to Tadcaster. If they don&#8217;t I&#8217;ll stick to my cider.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How passionate drinkers can be about a beer others label &#8220;average&#8221; is apparent in comments <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yorkpress.co.uk\/news\/yorknews\/display.var.1698173.0.john_smiths_cask_beer_brewed_in_tad_again.php\">posted at the end<\/a>. They are all worth a read, even those from drinkers who don&#8217;t think much of the beer. Here&#8217;s one:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For over a hundred years John Smith&#8217;s have been telling us the secret of their brewing was the artesian well water beneath Tadcaster, now they&#8217;re saying it doesn&#8217;t matter.
