{"id":279,"date":"2007-07-30T10:49:01","date_gmt":"2007-07-30T17:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/new-beer-rule-6-ode-to-the-empty-glass\/"},"modified":"2012-11-01T14:31:56","modified_gmt":"2012-11-01T20:31:56","slug":"new-beer-rule-6-ode-to-the-empty-glass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/new-beer-rule-6-ode-to-the-empty-glass\/","title":{"rendered":"New Beer Rule #6: Ode to the empty glass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/20070730-emptyglass.jpg\" alt=\"Empty beer glass\" class=\"alignright\"\/><strong>NEW BEER RULE #6:<\/strong> The best beer <em>was<\/em> in the empty glass.<\/p>\n<p>This rule came from a conversation with Matt Trevisan of Paso Robles winery Linne Calodo for an upcoming story, and he was explaining how he blends wines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I start with five glasses and I pick the emptiest one,&#8221; he said. &#8220;In the end you want the blend that you keeping going back to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trevisan sat in on the blending session last year when Paso Robles winemakers helped the brewers at Firestone Walker assemble the highly acclaimed <a href=\"http:\/\/beeradvocate.com\/top_beers?c_id=&#038;style=19\">Firestone 10<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I told them they didn&#8217;t have to sit there and pick it apart to find the best one,&#8221; Trevisan said, offering advice that works for wine or beer. &#8220;You didn&#8217;t necessarily want the one you had the most to say about. Ultimately it&#8217;s a beverage to enjoy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How you use this rule is up to you.
