{"id":228,"date":"2007-05-31T10:30:16","date_gmt":"2007-05-31T17:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/flying-dog-plans-open-source-beer\/"},"modified":"2012-11-01T10:28:42","modified_gmt":"2012-11-01T16:28:42","slug":"flying-dog-plans-open-source-beer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/flying-dog-plans-open-source-beer\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying Dog plans &#8216;open source&#8217; beer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appellationbeer.com\/images\/20070531-opensource.jpg\" alt=\"Beer Open Source Project\" class=\"alignright\"\/>Flying Dog Ales &#8211; which has more happening on the Internet than any other brewery I know of &#8211; has launched its own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcebeerproject.com\/\">Open Source Beer Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is to allow beer drinkers and homebrewers to create or recommend modifications to a Flying Dog recipe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Open Source Beer Project will start as a Dopplebock but the style may evolve as participants offer ideas and tweak the recipe. &#8220;We are encouraging input on every part of the recipe, down to how what variety of hops we should use, how much we should use and when we should add them,&#8221;\u009d said Flying Dog Head Brewer, Matt Brophy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The open source beer will be Flying Dog&#8217;s latest &#8220;Wild Dog&#8221; release and hit stores in October.<\/p>\n<p>Kudos to Flying Dog for creating an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcebeerproject.com\/feed\/\">RSS Feed<\/a> for the project. The brewery has embraced the Internet. Just a few examples:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; It regularly updates <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flyingdogales.com\/\">its website<\/a>, and sends out frequent e-mails for contests like a Ralph Steadman Signed Gonzo Bottle drawing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; It has more friends (8,607 at this moment) than any other craft brewery in\/on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/flyingdogbrewery\">MySpace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; It has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.squidoo.com\/flyingdogales\">Squidoo<\/a> page. <\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The brewery continues to add new videos at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/profile?user=FlyingDogProductions\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Is this marketing? Yes. Should be be wary of marketing? Probably, but a thread runs through the way Flying Dog appears in each of these spaces.
