The story about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodbeerhunting.com\/sightlines\/2022\/3\/10\/how-sexism-assault-pushed-one-woman-out-of-the-beer-industry\">\u201cHow Sexism, Assault Pushed One Woman Out of the Beer Industry\u201d<\/a> is absolutely gutting.<\/p>\n<p>And a part of the story not to be overlooked is this.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s exhausting to keep telling this fucking story,\u201d (Sarah) Hite says, adding that between 2020 and 2021, she and a trusted industry peer contacted two journalists about her experiences. Hite had given an interview to one of these journalists, but neither published stories about it. She says the reporter who interviewed her eventually stopped communicating with her.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Make time to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodbeerhunting.com\/sightlines\/2022\/3\/10\/how-sexism-assault-pushed-one-woman-out-of-the-beer-industry\">read the whole story<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#FOODIES<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alcoholprofessor.com\/blog-posts\/master-cicerone-shane-mcnamara-shares-beer-journeys-amp-how-to-pass-the-exam\">Interview with a master cicerone<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/10\/dining\/chowhound-closing.html\">So long, Chowhound<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThere\u2019s this: In his conversation with Em Sauter, master cicerone Shane McNamara says, \u201cI like to think of this journey as the same of what people describe as becoming a \u2018foodie.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<p>And this: Writing about the announcement that Chowhound website will close next week, Eric Asimov explains that the site was \u201ca neighborhood hangout for food adventurers \u2014 chowhounds, (founder Jim) Leff called them, distinguishing them from dilettantish foodies \u2014 to indulge their opinionated obsessions among a like-minded community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leff clearly is not pro \u201cfoodie.\u201d I admit this is piling on, but there is also this from the foreword of \u201cFoodies: Democracy and Distinction in the Gourmet Foodscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(The authors) show the pursuit of social status that underlies the false egalitarianism of foodies\u2019 claims to like humble dishes. Critical success came early on, and that sustained me for quite a few years, but financial success is the reason you get into business in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>AUTHENTICITY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodbeerhunting.com\/blog\/2022\/3\/9\/drinking-with-the-dead-the-complexities-of-bringing-ancient-beer-back-to-life-in-the-modern-world\">Bringing Ancient Beer Back to Life in the Modern World<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis is true: \u201cIf history, as they say, is told by the victors, rebrews can either reinforce or challenge cultural narratives.\u201d And that may be more important than perfectly replicating the flavor of an ancient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRe-creation beers, whether authentic or not, illuminate our understanding of beer and culture, and show us that we are actually very similar to our ancestors; beer is still a ubiquitous influence in our lives today,\u201d George Schwartz wrote in a Beer History magazine essay in 2013 that examined the importance of authenticity in modern versions of historic ales. \u201cWhat unifies these projects \u2014 whether they are derived from archaeological artifacts, scientific research, or archival documents \u2014 is a strong desire to connect with the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>PUBS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/22966376\/moes-tavern-real-simpsons-themed-bars-latin-america\">Drinking with the Simpsons<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nAfter you read this new story about the popularity of Moe\u2019s Taverns in South America, consider Samer Khudairi\u2019s essay about how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodbeerhunting.com\/blog\/2021\/3\/8\/drunk-as-a-poet-on-payday-how-the-simpsons-taught-me-about-beer-and-drinking\">The Simpsons taught him about beer and drinking<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thebaffler.com\/outbursts\/the-dregs-burns\">Surveying the literature of the pub<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cIt has also long been a favored site and subject for English literature. Some writers have dramatized the pub as a male-only space. For others, it has been a staging ground for transgression, where the norms of behavior break down. The pub has meant shame, dissolution, pleasure, companionship, and the artifice of companionship.
