It seems that\u2019s just one more way it is a link to the past.<\/p>\n<p>As Tiah Edmunson-Morton <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brewingarchives\/status\/1289640361573232640\">wrote in her tweet<\/a> this past weekend, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/beerhistory\">#beerhistory<\/a> field has grown impressively since she started <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.oregonstate.edu\/brewingarchives\">OHBA<\/a> seven years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/draftmag.com\/osu-hop-archive-oregon-tiah\/\">her and the archives for DRAFT magazine<\/a> two years into the run. (You can find the story here, but be aware the site is no longer secure.)<\/p>\n<p>Edmunson-Morton has been running ahead of the crowd from the start, already practicing what Paul Eisloeffel of the Nebraska State Historical Society called holistic collecting, \u201cthinking outside of the archives box\u201d and gathering artifacts as well as historical documents. This doesn\u2019t necessarily come naturally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDealing with artifacts has always been a problem for standalone archives,\u201d he said. He\u2019s a proponent of the sort of proactive collecting Edmunson-Morton undertook. \u201cIt is important for archivists to be able to look at what\u2019s happening in a culture and start collecting now. I really applaud her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cBut What If We\u2019re Wrong\u201d author Chuck Klosterman writes, \u201cIt&#8217;s impossible to understand the world of today until today has become tomorrow.\u201d It\u2019s also impossible if somebody is not saving the important stuff to begin with.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A box of Fred Eckhardt&#8217;s papers at the Oregon Hops and Brewing Archives. 7 years ago I started a #beer archive and it delights me that the #beerhistory field has grown so much since then!
