I was mostly curious how much older he is than breweries that <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/the-class-of-88\/\">started, for instance, in 1988.<\/a> In answering (1985) he added, with a smile, &#8220;Why, am I out of touch already?&#8221; Beer shift is constant, and this turn that began with the revival of Anchor Steam now stretches across generations. So two more posts that seem related.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jeffpickthall.blogspot.co.uk\/2015\/07\/am-i-post-craft.html\">Am I post-craft?<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>[Via It&#8217;s Just the Beer Talking]<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lisagrimm.com\/?p=668\">The Craft Beer Cycle, Bookended by HMHB and Gilbert &#038; Sullivan.<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>[Via weird beer girl]<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lisagrimm.com\/?p=668\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/images\/20150727-cycle.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" alt=\"Beer drinking cycle\" class=\"alignleft\" \/><\/a>Speaking at a conference last week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2015\/author-malcolm-gladwell-more-data-doesnt-mean-you-know-everything\/?curator=MediaREDEF\">troublemaker Malcom Gladwell pointed<\/a> to the difference between generational and developmental changes in people\u2019s behavior. Developmental changes are part of everyone\u2019s life cycle, while generational changes deeply affect one generation. Jeff Pickthall (first post) is talking about his own relationship with beer, but it is nonetheless interesting to consider the concept of &#8220;post-craft&#8221; with the <a href=\"http:\/\/draftmag.com\/toward-sincere-beer\/\">one of &#8220;postmodern&#8221;<\/a> Joe Stange put forth a few weeks earlier. And to throw in Lisa Grimm&#8217;s thoughts (and graphic she created), which are also about personal journeys but within the context of beer itself changing. <\/p>\n<p>Gladwell asked the audience at his talk &#8220;to consider whether Snapchat is generational or developmental. Is it going to affect culture deeply, or is it just another way to communicate and gossip when we\u2019re 17?&#8221; I&#8217;m not sure if there is a direct comparison to beer, or perhaps to specific beers (IPA, pumpkin, whatever), but something to think about. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.steveheimoff.com\/index.php\/2015\/07\/23\/in-the-future-everybody-will-be-a-sommelier-for-15-minutes\/\">In the future, everybody will be a sommelier for 15 minutes.<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nOr a Cicerone. <strong>[Via Steve Heimoff]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/fwx\/drink\/beer-around-world-getting-boozier-and-boozier\">Beer Around the World Is Getting Boozier and Boozier.<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;More global beer drinkers now view high ABV as a key quality indicator, inspired by the success of craft beer in the US \u2013 and increasingly globally over the past two years,&#8221; said Jonny Forsyth, Global Drinks Analyst at Mintel. &#8220;The craft beer phenomenon has made high strength beer acceptable for consumers.
