However, and I might wear you out with this, using the word <em>terroir<\/em> when talking about <em>beer from a place<\/em> just confuses the conversation. To cite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wineanorak.com\/wineblog\/\">Jamie Goode<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationbeer.com\/blog\/monday-beer-links-musing-12-16-13\/\">second week in a row,<\/a> he once described the concept of <em>terroir<\/em> in wine as &#8220;blindingly obvious and hotly controversial.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Find a word to use other than <em>terroir<\/em> and the conversation may change. <a href=\"http:\/\/tempestinatankard.com\/2013\/12\/16\/terroir-and-the-making-of-beer-into-wine\/#comment-92\">Read the other comments<\/a> and also head over to a discussion that popped up at <a href=\"http:\/\/beeradvocate.com\/community\/threads\/terroir-and-beer.138611\/\">Beer Advocate<\/a> with that in mind. And particularly this post from <a href=\"http:\/\/beeradvocate.com\/community\/threads\/terroir-and-beer.138611\/#post-1995457\">VitisVinifera<\/a>, which takes things in another direction.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>until a brewer:<br \/>\n-grows their barley\/wheat\/whatever right there<br \/>\n-grows their hops right there<br \/>\n-gets their water on-site<br \/>\n-completes all of this with a contiguous on-site brewery<\/p>\n<p>I will consider this an unanswered question<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My argument would be that a beer can taste of a place, represent a place, and be unique to a place without every damn ingredient being from that place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/boakandbailey.com\/2013\/12\/does-beer-need-editing\/\"><strong>Does beer need editing?<\/strong><\/a> Boak and Bailey ask that question and more: &#8220;Who is there to stop a brewer releasing a bad beer?
