Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, of course, but I have no problem in tasting the effect of the barrel staves in this beer and wonder about someone who would say they're "virtually non-existent." And you're quite right, Stan: it wouldn't have hurt Mr. Haefer to have researched this beer a bit first.

For the record, here's what I wrote in The Celebrator, pretty much echoing your thoughts:

"...though incongruously packaged in an oversized screw-cap bottle, (Celebrate) is anything but shy: Big vanilla on the nose, massive vanilla with background bourbon, light peach and alcohol notes in the body, and, yes, vanilla notes in the finish, too. Although my earnest colleague, Mr. Jackson, in the pages of All About Beer Magazine, suggested serving this in a snifter with an ice cube, as you would a Bailey’s, I’m happy to sip it at cellar temperature…until I grow a little weary of its simplicity."

I had the Bourbon Cask (which isn't as strong) last night on tap (Colorado Springs).

I was impressed with the beer, although I agree less vanilla would probably make it better. Several people I was with also tried the beer. Some ordered their own pint; just one didn't like it.
