Words to put you in a beer drinking state of mind for the weekend

First a few words from Simon Johnson.

Sometimes, I’m not interested in the moving target, the hope and expectation, the thrill of the chase.

I’m in it for the moment. I want to get my hands round the blighter.

I’m in it for the kill.

Now go drink some beer. I’ll be working on this list at the Schlafly Fresh Hop Festival myself.

  1. That list not only looks very manageable for a beer fest, it sure beats the heck out of anything I have on deck.

O’Fallon Brewery – Fresh Hopped 5-day IPA cask: We took a cask and filled it with 2.5 lbs of fresh hops. We then filled in the cracks with our 5-Day IPA. Enjoy! 6% ABV – 66 IBU

Yum. Wonder how long that cask will last? Have to tell us which hops were used, Stan.

    • Steve – The “basic” 5-Day is hopped with Summit and Cascade. The Garage Brewers Society (homebrew club) meets there and I had some out of the tank Tuesday, very hop-accented green. The brewery was out of action for a while, about the time we got here, so I’m glad to see the beer getting back to its previous (excellent) condition.

The fresh hops occupy about half the space in the firkin, so getting beer out may be a challenge. Think I’ll make it my first stop.

I had the Perennial fresh hop a couple weeks ago at a festival. Very nice. That’s fermented with saison yeast, so I’m looking forward to seeing how the others made with yeast from Belgium taste. Of course, Brooklyn’s Sorachi Ace pretty much kicked off this “craze.” But I didn’t care for the Mikkeller single hop Sorachi Ace out earlier this year.
