The Session #64: Woohoo! A return to style

The SessionCarla Companion, the Beer Babe, has picked the topic for The Session #64 and it is Pale Ale. Find two of them, drink them, write about them. It’s that simple.

The Session has taken many twists and turns since the first one in March of 2007, many of them delightful. But I never would have predicted 64 gatherings in that a) we’d still be doing this, b) we wouldn’t yet have focused on pale ale.

Looking back at Jay Brooks’ archive I see we’ve also somehow overlooked IPA. Oh, my.

  1. Excellent. After the apparent emotional minefield that was “le moment” I can only expect many varied drunken accusations and pointy fingers over the real meaning of “pale” in all of this.

  2. What’s IPA?

    Come to think of it, that discussion could be as [fill in the blank] as “the beer moment”

    I’ve been trying to overlook it for a few years now! ;D

    {but seriously, I just tried the SN Torpedo for the first time since it was first released and enjoyed it immensely}

  4. Whoo Hooo pale ales! I love ’em. All sorts of them. From bitters to baby IPA’s. What I like is the endless variety of pale ales available. Naturally one tends to gravitate towards certain characteristics. My own pale ales have become more and more pale, with a play between noble hop spicy cinnamon, and american C type hop citrus, fruit, and resin. All on top of a crackery malt flavor with just enough body to support the bitterness. Ooops I just wasted my contribution to the session.

    Ahhh the old style hand grenade. I was searching for something over at Shut Up About Barclay Perkins! and discovered Stan’s million comment debate with Ron and other pundits about the BJCP style guidelines. It was almost entrancing reading through it.
