Soft jazz, folk, Blue Moon White and Miller Lite
Today Don Russell compares the Miller Lite Brewers Collection to Kenny G.
I’ve previously written something similar about Coors Blue Moon White Ale and Peter, Paul & Mary.
The difference would be that I was arguing Peter Paul & Mary are authentic, and Don is making no such case for Kenny G. Just that his stuff sells. So a more parallel analogy would be to pick an “folk” artist similar to Miller Lite Wheat since the press material compares it to Blue Moon. Perhaps Trini “If I Had a Hammer” Lopez. (He’s in the Latin Music Hall of Fame, but what the heck was he doing singing Pete Seeger’s stuff?)
But that’s not the question of the day.
The question is what music genre does that leave for Anheuser-Busch’s Shock Top Belgian White?

You didn’t exactly review the Lites when you wrote about them, but now it appears as if you didn’t like the Wheat.
What about the others?

Percy Faith? Mitch Miller?

What style of music is Moby? That.

You’re kidding, right? Bjork maybe — not Moby, but either still have more originality and character than any A-B product!

Steve – I’d tell you to go try the Michelob again but you have and we obviously disagree.
How about the doppelbock they released at Christmas?
Signed – Not a Moby fan.

Peter,
No, I’m not a fan of the Wheat, but as I noted they didn’t brew it for my taste. I would also point out that although I’ve become the Official Defender of Blue Moon it’s not a beer I buy.
I agree with Lew Bryson that the Blonde is the best of the lot. It’s some fruit and spice character I don’t remember in Leffe Blond (6.6% abv).
That said, rather than having two Blondes at 4.2% and 110 calories I would go with one Duvel at 8.4%, I’m guessing 225 calories.
Basically the same amount of alcohol intake (maybe a little less since it would be a 33cl of Duvel) and calories. Lot more flavor. Works for me.

Never saw it around here Stan — and you’re right on the new Mich, we disagree. Tried near to a whole sixpack and was seriously underwhelmed.
And I’m no big Moby fan either, but he’s far from bland and characterless.

ABBA.
Take a chance on me.
