Steve - Perhaps my view is colored by the fact we were going there anyway. I wasn't lured in by the idea there would be doppelbock, as opposed to double bock.

It was a reminder that the rest of the world doesn't look at beer styles like we do.

BTW -- your picture of the HB-LV is terribly inviting, gives me a longing feeling just looking at it. And IIRC, there's a Hard-Rock Cafe across the, uh - street from the HB-München -- a bit reaching in authenticity on my dreams, but true nonetheless!

At the risk of sounding faceatious (and I'm honestly not being so), how do you figure that? Since both styles are at the top of my favorite list, I'm interested in the Hieronymus theory (or maybe the HB theory?).

I didn't view it is false advertising.

Doppelbock has one meaning to them, double bock another.

Was there anyone to ask about the "double bock" false advertising hook? Maybe they think the majority of we Yanks know not of true Doppelbock? Disappointing when your palate is ready for XXXator, regardless of the Hofbrau Maibock being one of the best of the style.
