My dad worked for Jones Brewing Co. on the banks of the Youghiogheny River in Smithton, Pa. for many years, and their whistle blew every day at noon and quitting time. We lived nearly seven miles away, and you could hear the tone that far away, albeit faintly. A friend who worked at Jones until it closed found the whistle lying ignominiously in a scrap pile near the end, and has it stored at his home. I'd love to connect it to an air compressor and see what happens!

I guess I should note that Full Sail Session is sold today - right here in New Mexico, even - in stubbies.

Yeah, I miss the Yuengling stubbies. I saved one of the last six-packs they made of them (well, it WAS a six-pack until my dad couldn't find any "regular beer" in my fridge and drank one).

Guy Hagner has some vintage stubbies he's going to use to custom-bottle at his soon-to-open One Guy Brewing in Berwick, PA.

BTW - those "stubbies" bring back memories of my dad and uncles drinking Hamm's, Drewry's, and Falstaff at summer picnics.

Will Fred Flintsone then slide down the back of his bronto-shovel and yell, "Yabba-dabba-doo!"? :)

Honestly, are there quitting-time steam whistles used anywhere (other than Tumwater) anymore?
