These rules are well thought out and inspired. So many “elevated” beer drinkers these days forget what may be the apex rule of beer drinking- Beer is fun. If and when we forget this one rule, we may be missing it all.

Thanks for this site- it is nice to have beer drinkers out there that have more experience than drinking IPA’s and a few Belgians and consider themselves experts. I like Alworths’ comment in saying, “the older I get the more they don’t make sense.” That is so true. Have you ever asked an “expert” the question WHY more then 5 times consecutively? Do this exercise with any expert- and they will get to “I don’t know” quicker then their ego would like! Expertise doesn’t exist. There is always someone who knows more and ultimately who cares anyways- beer is fun, so drink it and share what little you know with others and hopefully we all will learn from the others we have the opportunity to tip a snifter with.

I think with the amount of beer you would need to drink to learn everything there is to know about beer, you wouldn’t be able to remember it in the morning.

A wise person or two in the industry have told me “I’ve forgotten more about brewing than you will ever know.”

Hey, you profess your faith in good beer. I have seen it!

You know, it has been one of the happy upsides for me that most of my good beer fan boy experiences have not been in company of other nerds. I like to share with non-nerd pals but never get into debates that could lead to “shut up” other than in the small circle of the key clicking classes.

Good point, Alan. I meant the rule to be you can never know all there is to know about beer. I’d prefer the person on the bar stool next to me remember that.

Maybe I should put a new headline on the top.

I think your conclusion is actually your rule and not “shut up and drink your beer.”

If not, are you actually giving up your profession?
