Glad to hear that the new MJ book in the "Eyewitness Companion" series has new content. I confess to being one of the persons who'd suspected that it might be "re-purposed" and that was pre-publication and based on the fact that, on Amazon UK's site, they mentioned chapter titles of the new book including "What Makes a Great Beer?" "Which Beer When?" and "Cooking With Beer"- all titles of chapters in the book "Beer/Ultimate Beer" (since that book was published under two titles, for the UK and the US).

As I'm pretty sure I mentioned, as well, MJ's "new" editions are usually updated *and* re-written (something not every "new" edition of a beer book can claim, I've found) and are well worth purchasing even when one has the "older" edition. For example, while "Beer" and "The Great Beer Guide" shared some of the same photos of beers, the text (which, after all, is the most important part) was usually quite different. My "caution" was only for those ordering the book "pre-publication"- I would have waited to see the new edition or, in this case, gotten the information from a review.
