I didn't realise female brewers were particularly rare in Britain to be honest.

When in Franconia, we found one place where the sole brewer was a woman - Hofmanbrau.

OK, you've got me thinking.

I used the term because of Judtih Bennett's book, which points to women's rightful place in brewing history.

There used to be parts of England where someone who brewed was called a brewster, regardless of gender.

The point is not to be sexist or archaic, which might be unavoidable in modern terms.

Come on, Stan, isn't it time we consigned that ridiculous term, "brewster," to the dustbin of history? A brewer is a brewer, regardless of gender, and Teri's list is of "woman brewers," not brewsters.
