Ballpark beer

Urban Chestnut Zwickel at Busch Stadium

That’s Urban Chestnut Zwickel in the plastic cup, raised to toast Jackie Robinson on Jackie Robinson Day. The thought occurred to me Sunday at Busch Statium that it is the ballpark that makes ballpark beer worth ballpark prices. Yes, I should have figured that out years ago.

The second photo, below, shows what’s on tap at Captain’s Corner, which is located behind Section 265 (loge level).

  1. “That’s Urban Chestnut Zwickel in the plastic cup…”

Nice. Looks like you could’a used an extra hand for the pic!

  2. Coors Field has a brewery owned by Coors on premises. They have decent beer. Coors Field also has a couple other stations where you can find excellent beer (New Belgium & Odell).

I saw a couple articles floating around where Surly is going to be available at Target Field in Minneapolis this year. That’s pretty sweet.

Safeco usually has about 2 craft beers available at every station, and usually they are different at each station. I normally end up wandering around during batting practice trying to find that days beer.

  3. Jealous! Hoping I get to spend an afternoon or evening there this summer. Where in the ballpark is the Zwickel (since I don’t see it among the Captain’s Corner taps)?

  4. “…since I don’t see it among the Captain’s Corner taps…”

Isn’t that it — juuust to the left of the Boulevard?

  5. Joe – Don’t know if they’ve added any handles this year, but it was where we found it last year (same woman pouring, in fact), Section 142. A good reason to sit on the first base line.

Schlafly has a map at their site with tap locations (many, including a stand with 10 Pale Ale handles; looking at them makes me giggle).

  6. Stan, regarding where the UCBC beers are at Busch Stadium. Zwickel, Winged Nut, and Schnickelfritz are at Sec 134 and Zwickel is at 142. Thanks!!!

  7. Thanks, Jon. Will be good to know where Schnickelfritz is as the weather warms. Will be nice when you get a handle on the third base side (it’s important to have goals).
