But if the dunkelweizen is pretty much the same at the one they sold draft only and in Colorado only that’s a good start.

Speaking of Michelob, anyone know when we can expect new brews from them since A-B basically cut them loose? I’m hoping Michelob can slide in along side Sam Adams as a nationally available craft-ish brewery. Am I overly optimistic?

I can’t say anything withering about it – there’s nothing there to wither.

But to the thread and Stan’s question, I was only looking for a comparable beer that’s out there. My first taste of the Shiner Helles left me a little flat (so to speak), but as I sipped a little more I realized there was some good malt character in it. Maybe not as much as some of the Victory or Capital stuff, but more than the new Mich.

And no Stan, I’m willing to admit that my experience from throwing myself on the live grenade that was that Mich sixer was nothing but underwhelming. On the other hand, based on the Helles, I may have to give Shiner some second looks.

Yeah I think Shiner gets an overly bad rap sometimes. But then again they were the brewery that introduced me to beers beyond those of BMC back when I was in college, so they hold a special place for me. As for their Helles, its not bad, neither was their 97.

I’ll have to admit, their new 99 Helles wasn’t too bad at all. I’d choose it over the new Michelob all-malt, if given a choice.
