#4 – Where in the beer world?

Where in the beer world is this?Just to mix things up, this week’s photo for “where in the beer world?” was not taken during our current adventure (which began May 21).

It was snapped on a previous trip.

Want a hint? It’s not the world’s most expensive hop cone.

For those unfamiliar, here is how “where in the beer world?” works.

Please leave your answer about where the photo was taken as a comment. Also feel free to comment on the picture, maybe come up with a caption, even if you don’t know where in the beer world . . .

  1. At the German Hops Museum in Bavaria. It’s a beautiful little museum with some great displays. I was there last fall with a number of other beer writers.

  2. It’s the Hop equivalent to the walk-thru human heart at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago! Nice.

Caption: Pay no attention to the man behind the cone? Okay, maybe not.

  3. Jay’s right. I have a similar photo to prove it, except a bunch of us are standing inside.
More specifically, because it’s fun to out-Jay Jay whenever I can, it’s the Deutsche Hopfenmuseum in Wolnzach, Hallertau, Bavaria.
An aside: It’s pretty darn cool to stand inside a giant hop cone.

  4. Lisa, Jay: Do they still have the button you can push to experience what Hallertau Mittelfruh smell like?

  5. Stan, when you get to Munich head over to the Vitualianmarkt (sp?), aside from the nice Biergarten to sit in and watch the shoppers go by, they have every bit of produce available for sale in Bavaria… including hops!

A few years ago I saw an American couple looking down and discussing a basket full of hops, wondering what they were. I plucked a cone (I think the statute of limitations is up, but maybe not internationally) and crushed it in my hand to let them smell it. The realization was fun to see on their faces when they recognized the aroma.

  6. I figured that was where all the cool Keebler elves lived that didn’t bother with that lame baking and stuff.
